Here’s one of the best car-chase scenes filmed WITHOUT special effects, from the movie ‘Fear Is The Key’:
A Small News Story
A few days before the author wrote this, a seemingly small and unrelated story hit the television news headlines. Here is what happened as they reported it: a middle-aged woman had made a 911 (U.S. Emergency call) because her French Fries were cold and the vendor who sold her the meal refused to refund her money; this was AFTER she had eaten them. What happened next defies all logic.
What Happened?
The police actually went to the scene with the full understanding of what the “emergency” was. The vendor fully expected her to be taken to jail for misuse of the emergency service (because the policeman’s time and skill could have been used for a genuine emergency)but instead, the police officer reprimanded the vendor for not refunding the woman, and then gave the woman money to buy some MORE French fries, which she duly did!
She Admitted It
Had I have not seen the woman admit to this on television, I would not have believed any of it, but she not only confessed to it all, but she wanted public sympathy too.
Now, here is my point: the police officer REWARDED her bad behavior, which in effect told her that she was right to call the emergency services. His actions (which are all that mattered regardless of any words that were exchanged) told that her that she was right to do what she did.
She’ll Do It Again
This will no doubt encourage her to do more of the same. Not only that, and probably more importantly, the officer (and many more people like him around the world) is sending the message to others that people SHOULD be rewarded for this kind of behavior. It’s saying “do bad things and you will succeed”.
What effect will this have on society? Time only will tell, but I have little doubt that it will just exacerbate an already rapidly deteriorating country.
Can This Happen On A Grand Scale?
This is a small example of how rewarding a certain behavior works, but keep in mind that if the officer (and other “officials” around the world) was NOT serving society well in doing this. So, does this kind of thing happen on a grand scale? Would people ever reward a company for doing business badly, causing huge losses?
Let me think…………..AIG, Chrysler, GM, Fanny Mae, Freddie Mac……..the list goes on.
If the “officials” who rewarded this bad behavior with the “stick” instead of the “carrot” (which, as we’ve seen is twice as effective anyway), perhaps the world economy wouldn’t be in quite the mess that it’s currently in.
Luke.
If this helped you, please feel free to buy me a cup of coffee.......leaded of course!!!
