Quantcast
What Does It Do?
If you’re looking for information on your competitors and want to find out how busy one of their sites is, you can go to Quantcast.com and simply type your competitions URL into the search-box. You’ll then recieve the results in the format below:

The site that I chose to check was their own, but I could have chosen ANY site. Some of the statistics they offer are as follows:
1. Traffic Frequency - This is broken down into groups
a) Addicts
b) Regulars
c) Passers-By
2. Geographic - Where the sites visitors are from in the world
3. What State in the U.S.A they are located in
4. Ranking - For example, Google.com ranks #1, which probably doesn’t surprise you
How You Can Use This
At the very least, this information about your competitors may well put your mind to rest about how well, or otherwise, they are doing. At best I would suggest that you can use this information to determine ahead of time what your competition is going to be like, prior to launching a new website.
Once you’ve found the top 10 competitors in any new niche that you are interested in, (easily done with a simple Yahoo or Google search) you can enter each site’s URL and see exactly what you’re up against.
Try typing your OWN website addresses into the search box and see what results you get. It can be very eye-opening!
