$250 Free From Google!

Yes, you can get $250 totally free from Google if you apply before January 31st 2009.  This is not a scam.

WHY?

The people at Google are seeing a drop in advertising expenditure and so are offering this incentive to get NEW customers to try their model of advertising which is called AdWords.  The $250 comes in the form of advertising credits.

ADSENSE VS. ADWORDS

As you may or may not know, AdWords is how Google makes a lot of it’s money.  They sell adverts to targeted customers.  Rather than putting advertisments on a billboard on the highway and HOPE that some people want what you are advertising, Google Adwords works by sending ads to ONLY those places where people who are DEFINITELY interested are looking.

Adsense is the other side of the coin, whereby the person whose website the ad is being shown on gets paid each time somebody (NOT the owner of the site) clicks on an ad.

EXAMPLE

If you look at the top of this page (at the time this was written, because I may be moving my adsense ads to my sidebar soon), underneath my header, you’ll see a box full of ads that says ‘Ads By Google’.  These are AdWords, advertisements that are being displayed by advertisers.  If YOU want to run an advertising campaign like this and have your ads shown on websites that are related to that topic (in this case making money online) then you will need to open an adwords account and deposit some money so that whenever somebody clicks on the ad, your account will be debited by a certain amount.

You’ll also see these ads in the Google search-results along the top and down the sidebar. Here they are referred to as ‘Sponsored Links’.

HOW MUCH

It will be debited by the amount that you agreed to pay, and that amount is determined by several factors, not least of which is how “in demand” the words are that you bid on.  More about that in Pay Per Click.

There are many ways to make money online, but advertising is always going to be one of the principle ways of doing this.  For most people, Adsense is just additional money, but for others it’s their primary source of income.
