Okay, I know that STRAIGHT from the movie, but hey, who ever said there’s such a thing as an original concept? Somebody once came up with a SUPERB concept called the “one time offer”, and this has been emulated hundreds of thousands of times over the years.
Psychology Of The One Time Offer
The concept is based on human psychology, as all good marketing is. It’s really based on FEAR. Fear is the human emotion that kicks-in when a person thinks she will lose something. That could be their life, their money, their property, their health etc. Closely related to that is the fear of missing-out on something.
The one-time-offer is where you make the offer and tell them that THIS is the ONLY chance they’ll EVER get to……………(buy it, buy it at this price, get it free etc.)
It’s also partly due to one of the other buying “triggers” known as having Social Proof (part of the herd mentality which we all have……….unless you’re a hermit that is, in which case you have some SERIOUS issues which need resolving NOW!!! LOL).
How To Present Your Offer
Making a once time offer can be as simple as writing the words into a sales page, or you can use a program of some kind to automate this. You’ve probably seen them, the electronic version of Ron Popeil’s “but wait………….” catch phrase. These internet versions typically consist of an irritating pop-over that won’t go away until you double-click out of it. I don’t like them, because I figure, if they irritate ME, then they must irritate other people.
Supply And Demand
My preferred method is to simply write REALLY GOOD sales-copy, but of course, that’s easier said than done. There really aren’t many good sales copywriters out there, and the really good ones charge a FORTUNE, simply because they are rare and in great demand. The laws of supply and demand NEVER change.
The one-time-offer is often used with an up-sell “do you want fries with that?” or “do you want to supersize” (okay, I’ve been eating too many hamburgers recently).
So, the next time you’re writing a sales-page, consider this option, particularly if you have an up-sell product (”gold” version or whatever), or if you want to bundle several products together.
Luke.
If this helped you, please feel free to buy me a cup of coffee.......leaded of course!!!
