Have you ever wondered why some blogs are read all the time and other get almost no traffic? Here are some things to consider when writing your blog posts.
How People Might React
Different people are obviously going to react differently to most things. This is due to their experiences; their upbringing, events that have occurred, what they’ve read etc. and reacting to what they’ve read will be no different.
When you’re blogging, you must expect and prepare for the following kinds of reactions to what you’ve written.
1. They’ll discard it as nothing more than garbage and will never come back to read more
2. They may think it’s okay, but not good enough to come back very often. They MIGHT bookmark your site.
3. They may like it because something hit a chord with them, so they’ll definitely bookmark it and will come back.
4. They liked what you wrote so much that they will tell their friends about it.
5. They think it’s so important that they want EVERYBODY to know about it, so they’ll use social sites like Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, StumbleUpon etc. to promote it.
6. They’ll do #5 and also they’ll subscribe, because they want more of what you have to offer and as much as they can get.
But these reactions are out of your control, right?
You CAN Control Some Reactions
Well, while it’s true that you are mostly out of control when it comes to other people (what is important to THEM), consider this. They found your blog because they typed something into a search-engine (or they were directed there by friends, or an article you wrote etc.) so they are ALREADY somewhat interested in at least SOMETHING that you have to say.
Also, consider the fact that religious leaders and politicians, both groups being masters of people-control, frequently say (not DO) exactly what people want to hear and keep them coming back for more.
How You Can Do This
There are two ways to achieve this.
1. Do as politicians and religious leaders do.
2. Tell people the facts.
The first ALWAYS works. Let’s face it, if someone of the opposite sex (usually) tells you how attractive you are, you LIKE it, want to hear more of it AND you are more likely to listen to whatever else they have to say.
The Second Way
The second way is what I do. I tell people facts. While this doesn’t always work, it DOES keep those people who ONLY WANT FACTS coming back for more. In effect, by only telling people facts and not filling their heads with useless (thought nice to hear) nonsense, I”m weeding-out people that I don’t want to communicate with anyway!
Sometimes what you say in your blog-posts may not be what MOST people want to hear, but guess what? They’ll EVENTUALLY figure-out that the FACTS are what really control their lives. If they don’t, it’s no loss to you or your blog.
The more USEFUL (factual information is useful, incorrect or purely “made-up” stuff is only useful if you find a use for fiction, which is good purely for entertainment) the more people will come back to get more.
In Betweenie
Is there a nice gray area in between? Probably. But some years ago I decided I was going to live my life FREE of nonsense. Everybody believes in some kind of nonsense, most of which doesn’t do TOO much harm, however, the less you have of this in your life, the more you’ll be in touch with reality and the more you’ll prosper.
If you want to know what MY particular nonsense is, then just ask. I’m happy to share!
Luke.
If this helped you, please feel free to buy me a cup of coffee.......leaded of course!!!
