Joint Ventures
A joint venture, or JV, is pretty self-explanatory. You look for somebody who has something that you want, that will help you sell something to make profit. This is done not only in the internet marketing world, but also in traditional businesses. Many times you’ll see ads on television what might promote two companies products in the single commercial advertisement.
Online JV’s
This is no different when you’re business is based online. Typically what you are looking for is either somebody with a product that you can promote to your list, or somebody with list that you can promote your product TO. If, of course, you already have both a good list of buyers (very, VERY different to a list of freebie-hunters) AND a product you’ve just created, you can dispense with finding a joint venture parnter and simply promote your product to your own list, and offer it to Affiliates by putting the product onto Clickbank, or Commission Junction etc.
Finding a JV Partner
While this may sound easy, nothing it can actually be very challenging. After all, people are busy already creating or promoting products, so you have to find somebody who has what you want (list or product) AND the TIME to work with you. Here are some things to consider when looking for a partner:
1. Whatever you do, DON’T think that they will do all the work. This is a JOINT venture, so take as much responsibility as you can, and agree at the outset what each of you will be responsible for.
2. Give them as much informatiion as you can, and if you are the partner with the product, provide email copy, promo-tools, banner-ads etc. as possible.
3. You have to SELL the idea to them. It’s very unlikely that anybody with a good list is simply going to see you product and want to promote it. It’s possible, but UNLIKELY. Show them how they can make money, and show them how little they have to do to MAKE that money.
4. Make sure you’ve tested your sales-letter. They’ll most likely want to know how effective it is (what the conversion rate of readers to buyers is). This alone might be enough for them to offer you one of their lists.
5. Try to stand out from the other JV offers they get. Don’t think that you’re the only one making a proposition to them that day. Some of the big names in internet marketing have hundreds of JV’s offer EVERY WEEK. Make your offer intriguing enough for them to want to know more.
6. Finally, consider offering them VERY HIGH commissions, even 100% commissions. This won’t be necessary if you’re already established, but if you’re new to the business, them this may well be a way to get yourself known.
One Partner
Getting started with JV’s takes only ONE partner. Choose carefully and they may become not only a great business partner for years to come, but also a good friend too.
