People Will Disappoint You

Has anybody ever disappointed you?  Have they been late for a date?  Did they take something from you without your permission? Have they let you down some other way?  Well……………..it’s YOUR fault!

How Can It Be Your Own Fault?

The statement “People Will Disappoint You” is completely false.  Why?  Let’s analyze it.

People (that’s anybody who isn’t you) will disappoint (verb: to fail to fulfill the expectations or wishes of) you (that’s YOU).

So what this is saying is that somebody other than you did not fulfill YOUR expectations!  The question is, who are YOU to judge whether or not other people should or should not conform to your image of them?

All you are really doing is disappointing YOURSELF.

You don’t KNOW anybody completely, you only THINK you know them. You probably don’t even really know YOURSELF completely.  You really have no idea what they are or are not capable of; nor do you know what they are or are not willing to do.  This has been proven in real-life on a personal level (think about the times this has happened to you) and also on a grand scale (think about the unthinkable atrocities the Nazi’s did during World War II).

People say things they don’t mean (good and bad) and they mean thing they don’t say.  Knowing this, you should really never put too much stock in anything anybody says.  What they DO is a much better indicator of their character, not what they say.  Words are nothing but sounds that people put meaning too.  Actions are a VERY different animal!

To prevent ever being disappointed by anybody ever again is very simple.  Stop expecting anything from them.  This way, instead of disappointing yourself, you can only ever be pleasantly surprised when somebody does something nice.

The application?  If somebody says that they’ll buy something from you or will send you a check in the mail, pretend they didn’t say that or that you didn’t hear it.  That way, when the check arrives, it’ll be a nice surprise.

Also, remember that most other people DON’T think this way, so when YOU, as a business person, say you will do something ………..DO IT!!
