I just had an electrician come around to work on some lights in my house (that were installed by a monkey….all real monkeys please accepts my apology) when the house was built about a year ago. He did a great job, charged a fair price and left. While he was working (I’m always trying to learn new stuff) he told me that business was very slow and that he was considering changing professions.
He’d been an electrician for 11 years, and that was after his initial apprenticeship. He said that not only was business bad at the moment, but that he was getting bored doing what he did. He did his job very well, unlike some, but it just wasn’t working for him any more. He wanted to make money and I told him what I did for a living (internet marketing) but he said he wanted something that would get him out and about and that was exciting. “What do you have in mind?” I asked. His reply almost floored me………
“I want to be a helicopter pilot!”
Well, after a few milli-seconds, I realized that he was doing exactly what I would have done if I were in his situation. He is willing and prepared to drop everything to follow his dream! He went on to tell me he’d investigated several ways that he could make this happen and that he found a way to do it.
How many people do YOU know who would make this kind of career change? Dream about it, wish it, hope for it………….but to actually MAKE IT HAPPEN????
When he left I wished him the best of luck, but KNEW that he didn’t need luck. He had everything he already needed: desire and determination.
